Organized camping grounds are available throughout Iceland. Some of them are located on private properties, others are owned and operated by the local communities and still others are located on protected areas supervised by The Nature Consevation Counsil. There are around 125 registered camping grounds in Iceland.
Camping grounds are normally open for camping from June 1st. until the end of August or middle of September, depending on location. They are divided into categories according to the facilities that are available at or near each camping ground.
